BBC Proms: Horrible Science — Big Bang Prom
SATURDAY 25 JULY 2026 2:00pm
The Elements
Two performances: 2pm and 6pm

Join Albert Einstein and Marie Curie as they share the DNA of CBBC’s hit comedy sketch show Horrible Science live at the Royal Albert Hall with some scientifically proven bangers from the classical canon. They’ll be joined by some of the great characters from science to introduce sensational sounds from Holst’s The Planets and Errollyn Wallen’s The Elements to John Williams’s Star Wars. But will the Prom survive Dr Big Brain’s devilish desire to conquer the universe?

Master of the King's Music Errollyn receives a Koussevitsky commission A Christmas Miracle — a new opera
His Majesty The King has appointed Ms Errollyn Wallen CBE as Master of the King's Music; the first appointment to this role of his reign. The Serge Koussevitzky Music Foundation in the Library of Congress has awarded a grant in 2026 made possible by the Otto and Catherine Brunson Luening Awards Fund. The Koussevitzky Foundation has commissioned 496 works, many universally recognized as standards of music literature. Christmas Miracle is a new opera for children, adults and professional artists by The Master of the King’s Music, Errollyn Wallen. It has been developed by Mahogany Opera, co-produced by Britten Pears Arts and supported by Jubilee Opera and Orkney Music and Culture. The world premiere performances will take place in Orford Church on 20 and 21 November, where, in 1958, Britten’s visionary community opera Noye’s Fludde was premiered. A Christmas Miracle will then travel to Errollyn Wallen’s home of Orkney for performances in St. Magnus Cathedral on 4 and 5 December.
